Components

PSMBV Components

To achieve the objectives, the Program is divided into six components:

Coordination

It is responsible for coordinating, in relation with its Assistant Project Manager, the implementation of research partners’ activities and monitoring research and technical studies.

Infrastructures

Conducting technical studies (Preliminary Project Designs, Detailed Project Designs, Bidding Documents) followed by the construction of the fecal sludge treatment plant.

Research

It will guide throughout the course of the program the design and development of market strategies and assess new technologies to be used in Senegal. It will focus on six topics related to the market and the regulatory framework of the sanitation sector in Senegal and to the certification of emptiers.

Marketing Strategy

It defines, through the results of the research component meant to expand the emptying operators’ market, a trade and communications policy intended to increase the demand for mechanical emptying services. It will include training of operators, media campaign, and visual and promotional materials. This activity will support the scaling of the project.

Flood-Prone Area

It aims to reduce the epidemics, mortality, and morbidity risk due to oral, fecal contamination, in the most vulnerable households in Pikine and Guediawaye. In this context, at least 2 to 3 innovative sanitation technology systems will be developed and tested in targeted communities, providing appropriate, affordable options, from which the communities can make their choices.

Biogas

The aim is to develop a viable business model for biogas generation from fecal sludge through energy recovery
